vSphere Hosted Lab

Requirements

To launch and use a vSphere hosted lab that also requires the use of RDP, the following requirements must be met:
  1. Have a supported browser. (IE 10+, Edge 1+, Chrome 16+, Firefox 11+, Safari 6+)
  2. Be connected to a network that allows the following outbound protocols and ports:
    1. Web sockets over HTTPS port 443 (HTML5 control)
    2. VMware custom protocol over port 902 (VMware Remote Console Plug-in)
  3. Have administrative rights on the local machine if installing the the VMware Remote Console Plug-In

Browser/Control Support

Machines in your lab can be accessed using either one of two available virtual machine controls. You can freely change between controls to find the one that works best for you.

Port Check

If you are having trouble connecting to your lab machines, it might be helpful to check if your machine can communicate on the appropriate ports. Note: the port check requires Java.

Speed Test

If you are experiencing frequent disconnects or lag when controlling your machines, you may be asked to run an internet speed check. Note: the speed test requires Java.

Firewall Exception Rule Information

For those that need to create a firewall exception rule to allow connectivity to the Lab on Demand servers (this isn't common), the following information can be used to create a limited destination rule to only allow the above protocols and ports from your network to the Lab on Demand cloud.

The Lab on Demand system is a cloud platform that automatically provisions and connects the learner with private sandboxed resources. There is no way to predict which IP address in the cloud the learner will connect to for the provisioning of their virtual machines. This is why we provide a range of IP addresses and only a second level domain name.
